Research Specialist, ChicagoCHEC

The University of Illinois Cancer Center is seeking candidates for a Research Specialist position. This position will support multiple research projects devoted to the ChicagoCHEC-Cancer Health Equity Collaborative. In addition, this position assists Research Scientists/Principal Investigators with their applications for federal or foundation grants and participates in publishing original research in peer reviewed publications, along with assisting in grant writing and progress reports to funding agencies.

Essential duties include:

  • Participates in specialized community based research in collaboration with UI Cancer Center Research Scientists/Principal Investigators.
  • Adheres to research aims to achieve sponsor objectives.
  • Uses proper scientific methods for publication and participate in scientific symposia.
  • Analyzes data and information, evaluates and reports findings to Research Scientists/Principal Investigators, research staff and national conferences.
  • Contributes material, prepares scientific reports, prepares presentations and assists in the writing of research findings for papers, presentations and other documents.
  • Develops and maintains research records, grant information, research notes and resource utilization as documentation for sponsor.
  • Assists in the writing of ChicagoCHEC reports, grant submissions and IRB applications.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation for all ChicagoCHEC activities and programs, including, but not limited to meetings, conferences, community engagement, research with underserved populations, clinical trials and community engaged research.
  • Identifies and coordinates working relationships with peers at other research sites, Cancer Centers, university departments and appropriate University personnel to achieve defined goals and objectives.
  • Attends meetings and committees related to the research projects, and represents the Cancer Center CERIS and ChicagoCHEC as a liaison with other research specialists, research scientists and investigators nationally and internationally.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required. Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of related research experience.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
