JESSE BROWN VA MEDICAL CENTER
MISSION
Honor America’s veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and wellbeing. The Jesse Brown VA Medical Center consists of a 200-bed acute care facility and four community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). Jesse Brown VAMC provides care to approximately 62,000 enrolled veterans who reside in the City of Chicago and Cook County, Illinois, and in four counties in northwestern Indiana. In FY10, the medical center had over 8100 inpatient admissions and 560,000 outpatient visits. A budget of over $355 million supports approximately 2,000 full-time equivalent staff, including 200+ physicians and 450 nurses, with 500+ volunteers providing service and care at Jesse Brown VAMC and CBOCs.

JOHN H. STROGER, JR. HOSPITAL OF COOK COUNTY
MISSION
John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County is a teaching hospital that provides primary, specialty and tertiary healthcare services. The hospital has a staff of more than 300 attending physicians along with more than 400 medical residents and fellows.

The hospital serves as the hub for the Cook County Health & Hospitals System for delivery of specialty and sub-specialty care. More than 40% of the hospital’s space is dedicated to an outpatient Specialty Care Center. The Level 1 Trauma Center is one of the most respected in the nation. The hospital’s adult emergency room treats over 110,000 patients annually. While the Pediatrics emergency room treats 45,000 children and adolescents each year with a no wait policy.

In the proud tradition of its predecessor, Cook County Hospital, it remains at the forefront of new therapies and innovations in healthcare while never neglecting those in need. The John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County today continues to maintain the strong commitment of the Cook County Health & Hospitals System to the healthcare needs of Cook County’s underserved population, while also offering a full-range of specialized medical services for all segments of the community.
